That’s the first line of one of my AP lit summer assigment books. Is this teacher serious? I don’t even think that is grammatically correct. “It was there was a” definitely does not sound right. This is going to kill me.

no, it’s right. it’s just broken up weirdly.

it’s not /it was there was a/ - the sentence, to me, reads /once upon a time and a very good time it was/ there was a moocow/

but that’s just an english major’s take on it :)
